Where It All Began
Bags In Leather started with a simple frustration: it was nearly impossible to find a leather bag that was genuinely well-made, used real full-grain leather, and didn’t cost a fortune — or come from a factory assembly line.
The luxury brands charged thousands for a logo. The affordable brands used bonded leather or “genuine leather” — marketing terms that sound premium but actually describe the lowest usable grade. And the bags in between? Most of them fell apart within a year.
So we went looking for the people who still make leather the way it’s supposed to be made — by hand, with care, using the best materials. That search led us to Morocco.
The Craft Behind Every Bag
Morocco has one of the oldest leather-making traditions in the world. The tanneries in cities like Fez have been producing leather for over a thousand years — long before modern factories existed. The craft has been passed down through generations, refined but never lost.
Our bags are made by a team of skilled artisans in our workshop in Tetouan, a city in northern Morocco known for its artisan heritage. These are not workers on a production line — they are craftspeople who learned their trade over years, often decades. They know leather the way a musician knows an instrument: by feel, by instinct, by experience.
Every bag that leaves our workshop has been cut, stitched, and finished by hand. There are no shortcuts. The leather is inspected before cutting. The stitching is reinforced at stress points. The hardware is tested before assembly. It takes time — and that’s the point.
Why Full-Grain Leather — And Nothing Less
Not all leather is the same. Most bags on the market use corrected-grain or “genuine” leather — where the surface has been sanded, buffed, and coated with plastic to hide imperfections. It looks smooth in photos but cracks, peels, and falls apart within months.
We use only full-grain leather — the top layer of the hide with the natural grain left completely intact. It’s the strongest, most durable grade of leather that exists. It doesn’t peel.
